HHAA SUPPORTS THE HAWAII HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION FOR AIR RIFLERY
HHAA has made a $3,000 donation supporting the air riflery program of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association (HHSAA). The Civilian Marksmanship Program awarded the HHSAA with 30 sophisticated, high- tech electronic targets. The targets are $4,000 each, totaling a value of $120,000. Shipping cost for the 30 targets, from Alabama to Honolulu, is $8,000; $5,000 was acquired from the Friends of NRA, and HHAA provided the outstanding balance of $3,000.
This electronic target system eliminates paper targets and scoring. It uses a single target on a movable target stand and is scored by use of microphones which detects the sound of the moving pellet and determines a score. It will display live the shot location on a video screen for the shooter and gallery and will also transmit scores live to the mainland giving the Hawaii program and shooters national exposure. This is the type of scoring system used at the Olympics, international matches, national level matches, and collegiate matches.
The HHSAA was awarded these 30 targets as Hawaii is one of only two states who sponsors a tournament for high schools and provides the largest shooting program for high schools in the nation!
